Using Heartgard/Iverheart/Triheart/Valuheart ivermectin-based options is rolling the dice on a breakthrough infection because of resistance to ivermectin emerging here. Different regions really have different needs (and see different results even). Asking for what people use gets you a bunch of less-than-helpful answers without knowing what part of the country THEY are in - it's why YOUR VET needs to be part of the convo too. We have a gazillion threads on this - in many of them I've broken down the regional differences. Oh, and yes our boy also got the Lyme vaccine that in dogs is only about 60% effective but given that 40% of the tested ticks in our area carry Lyme, its a bit of extra insurance. We did use Frontline Plus last summer and we were constantly pulling attached ticks off our pup and so I really do not have much faith in Frontline Plus. ![]() Given the recent bad news surrounding the Seresto collars, we decided we would not consider that although I really like how the collar actually repels ticks as the oral meds do not. He warned us against using Trifexis as studies showed higher incidence of seizures and deaths. Our vet carries both Bravecto and Credelio and both are similar. For fleas and ticks which are extremely prevalent now in the Northeast he will be getting Bravecto. Turns out he does not have a chicken allergy after all. For heartworm and parasites we use Interceptor Plus although he was on Sentinal for a few months when he was a very young pup and we thought he might have a chicken protein allergy and Interceptor is flavored with chicken. Mixed bag of products out there that can be confusing.
